[Internal-cg] Naming Proposal and IPR

Good catch, Alissa,
I hadn't picked up the reference to the website in Annex M - the transition from the post transition IANA - the existing IANA functions operator - to a new operator, should it become necessary at some stage. A separate Design Team was looking at IPR issues and the status of that work was what I quoted below.
The transition of the website, the registries and any trademarked terms to a new operator will depend a bit on who actually owns the IPR and whether this has been transferred to the PTI. So I think that there still needs to be some discussion on these arrangements between the communities, although I suppose that there is no real need to have every piece of IP covered in the same way.
Thanks for spotting it!
Martin

Thanks. I see there is a brief mention of IPR related to the IANA web site in Annex M, but I'll assume that text was still under development when the document went out for public comment.

Hi Alissa,
Following our call, I promised to let you know what we were saying about IPR in the CWG-Naming work. There was a small team looking at this issue and it concluded that this should be dealt with through dialogue with other communities as it is not limited to naming community. Should there be an IPR issue that is naming specific, the CWG would obtain input from the legal advisors. A call has been scheduled with chairs of CRISP team to co-ordinate, not only on this issue but also broader conversations.
Hope this helps
Martin
